The Chicago Bears may be without their starting tight end in the first week of the regular season

The late season injury of Trey Burton that put him out of the Chicago Bears playoff game seemingly came out of nowhere. However, the issue led to offseason surgery that sidelined Burton for most of the offseason.

Matt Nagy has been extremely optmistic about the timetable, and considering he was resting all of his players, Burton missing most of training camp was not a stunner.

However, in the first day that the Chicago Bears practiced as a 53-man roster, Burton was on the sideline working individually while the rest of the group got work.

From there, reports came out that Burton may not been in the shape that they want him to be.

The fact of the matter is that Burton is recovering from offseason surgery and is not in NFL game shape. That is not going to come in the next two or three days.

The Chicago Bears have to be thinking that Burton will not play on Thursday.

The ideal timeline would be that with the added days off, Burton can back to work for the start of Week 2, get a full week of practice, and return.

However, for as honest as Nagy is as a head coach, he clams up when it comes to injuries. Is this a multiple week deal, and his optimism is just throwing many off?

The Bears did not place him on the PUP, which means that he has practiced at times. They did not put him on the IR, which means he will return in the first half of the season.

However, the first couple of weeks are officially in jeopardy for a big piece of the offense.
