3. James Daniels
Another player transitioning to a bigger role in his second season. No one is going to talk about Daniels and his debut at center, but the fact that the Chicago Bears are rolling with a new center is worth noting.
As we have written about this offseason, this should be a good thing. Whitehair is the more natural guard, and may be better in that role. Daniels is the more natural center.
However, it may have been good for progression to sit for a few games, and get experience at guard to adjust to the speed and strength of the NFL. From there, he can add in the nuance of playing center, calling out protections, and snapping the ball before finding his assignment.
This should be an upgrade, but is it an instant upgrade? We will see first thing as Kenny Clark, a talented nose tackle should be lined up over Daniels.
