Chicago Bears : game preview vs Green Bay Packers

GREENBAY, WI - OCTOBER 20: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
GREENBAY, WI - OCTOBER 20: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers

It’s game day. Let that sink in. The Chicago Bears are facing off against the Green Bay Packers tonight to kick off the NFL season. It’s time to restart the chase for the Super Bowl, and it all begins tonight.

Since the offseason began a lot of people have given their take on the Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers game that will play out tonight. Well here is your chance to read one more preview before kick off.

The Bears and Packers have a long and historic rivalry, just watch the video above with 2 Bears Superfans. Last season the two teams faced off to start the season, with Green Bay taking home the win on home field. The Bears will try to take the win on their home field tonight.

Quarterbacks

Who wins tonight might just hinge on the success of the quarterbacks. Mitch Trubisky is playing in his second year under Matt Nagy’s system, while Aaron Rodgers has a new coach, Matt LaFleur. Rodgers still has a lot more experience than Trubisky, and we saw what Rodgers did to the Bears last season with one leg.

When you look at both quarterbacks both Rodgers and Trubisky have their talents. Rodgers has only thrown 10 interceptions against the Bears in his entire career. While Trubisky has shown glimpses of how dominant he can be in the NFL. This is a big year for Trubisky, whether or not he proves himself as an NFL elite quarterback starts tomorrow night. (Hopefully he can, I picked him in my fantasy league.)

Bears Offense

Trubisky has a talented group of offensive linemen in front of him. Expect Nagy and the Bears to continue to go with a fast pace offense with a mixture of running and throwing. The Bears have some really good running backs at their disposal. Whether it be David Montgomery or Tarik Cohen, the Bears should be good in the run game.

Montgomery will be playing in his first NFL game, from what we saw in the preseason Montgomery does look ready to go, but even still I think they might shelter the young running back a little in the first quarter.

Allen Robinson should get his fair share of targets in the game as well, however he will have Green Bay all over him all game. The Bears are going to need to keep the Packers guessing the entire game if they want to win.

Bears Defense

What more needs to be said about the Chicago Bears defense. Khalil Mack is back to torment opposing teams, while Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is going to get revenge against the team that drafted him and traded him.

The Bears defense also has a new leader, Chuck Pagano joined the team in January following Vic Fangio leaving the team. A lot of time and effort this offseason was spent debating the impact Pagano will have on the defense, but to me it should not effect much. The Bears still have most of their talented defensive players they had last year. Akiem Hicks, Kyle Fuller, and Eddie Jackson will all make a difference.

The Bears winning the game tonight hinges on the Bears defense. They need to shut Aaron Rodgers down, better than they did last year during the season opener. Chicago wants a complete game of football from the Bears defense, and hopefully we will get it.

Kickers

Ok, Eddy Pineiro is now the kicker of the Chicago Bears. He “made” it through the offseason competition and is now the best option we have. Chicago’s faithful needs to throw their faith behind Eddy Pineiro.

I say that because if the Bears send out Pineiro for a field goal or extra point tonight Bears fans need to treat him like he is on OUR team. Pineiro missed an extra point in one of the last pre season games of the season, and the crowed let them know their discomfort with that.

Bears fans need to let Pineiro do his job, and do their job in supporting the team.

Final Thoughts

It’s finally time for Bears football. No more offseason power rankings, or training camp stories. No more endless retellings of the Parkey kick. Now the Bears have the opportunity to re-write their story, and it all starts tonight against the Packers. Bear Down, it’s game time.
