The Chicago Bears lost in Week 1. However, the season is not over
Yes, the Chicago Bears lost in Week 1 to a division rival. No, it was not pretty. However, that is just one game. The Bears lost in Week 1 to the Packers last season and we know what happened from there.
It may be a different feel than last year, but this is a different team as well. This is a team that still can put a week 1 loss behind them and rebound for a strong season. Who are five people who set the tone of optimism for 2019?
5. Leonard Floyd
Leonard Floyd was excellent on Thursday. He finished the game with two sacks, and was all over the field. He dropped into coverage and rushed from each side. He even lined up next to Khalil Mack, pushing Mack to the inside at times.
Mack took advantage. So, yes, Floyd cleaned up a sack that Mack created to help stuff his stat sheet. However, Floyd was still as good as his advertised in the stat sheet.
Remember, last season he played half of the year with a cast on his hand. This year, he had nothing holding him back. This could turn into a big year for Leonard Floyd. While he will not finish with his current per-game average of 32 sacks, a career-high in sacks is already on the table.
Look for a strong season from Leonard Floyd, as this defense still has what it takes to make a serious step forward.
