Three keys for the Chicago Bears to beat the Washington Redskins
By Adam Childs
2. Get Trubisky in Rhythm
The biggest complaint from the Bears the first two games would have to be the play of Trubisky and most of it is warranted. He probably hasn’t been as bad as most want to say he has, but he definitely has not been good.
If he plays at all like he can (even though we haven’t seen it much) the Bears would have beat the Packers in week one. He did just enough, including the late 25-yard pass to Robinson, to win against the Broncos, but some would say the Bears won in spite of him.
His completion percentage was actually higher against the Broncos but at 59.3% that is not good enough. Especially when you only throw for 120 yards. He has only thrown one interception on the year, but it almost looks like he is afraid to take any chances in fear of turning the ball over. Obviously Nagy and company don’t want him making mistakes, but you have to take some chances to get rewarded for it.
Nagy would be smart to get him in the flow more in this game. Yes, we still want them to use the rushing attack to get the balance, but that balance only works if they are still throwing the ball well. Get Trubisky completing some easy passes early, get him in rhythm with the receivers and it can hopefully build his confidence to have a great day.
It seems like a gameplan for first-year guys or reserves, but with the way Trubisky is playing, getting him going in a game would be huge. Call plays that you know he can complete easily and get the offense moving. This will also help keep the defense off the field. As good as the defense has been, they can’t be on the field all the time.
If Nagy comes out with a gameplan getting Trubisky some easy completions it could mean good things for the Bears and a win in Washington.
