The Chicago Bears have a lot of retired numbers. To be exact, they have retired a total of 14 numbers that have been retired over their long and storied history.

They are at the point that they really can’t afford to retire any more numbers or they may have a tough time filling their requirement for numbers, by position, that the NFL has.

The players that have their numbers retired range all the way from the early years of the Bears with Bronco Nagurski’s number three to Walter Payton’s number 34 and on to Mike Ditka’s number 89.

The last number to be retired with Ditka’s.

Every single retired number belongs to someone special and someone that made a positive impact on the team.

Who are the men behind the numbers? What did they do to deserve having their number retired? What is their legacy today?

Let’s find out as we take a player by player look at those players who have had their numbers retired by the Bears since their inception 100 years ago this season.
