Clyde Turner

Also known as “Bulldog” Clyde Turner played with the Beas for 13 total seasons. He was with Chicago from 1939 to 1952 coming to them as a first-round pick (7th overall) in the NFL Draft. Turner started with the Bears as a center and then evolved into a linebacker. He also played offensive tackle.

Turner was named an All-Pro in his rookie year and continued to earn the honor a total of eight times during his career. He was named to two Pro Bowls as well as two NFL All Star teams. Bulldog Turner led the NFL in interceptions in 1942 and he made the NFL’s All Decade Team for the 1940s.

He played on some great teams in the 1940’s as the Bears continued to win NFL Championships.

Turner went into the US Army Air Force in January of 1945. He played just two games for the Bears but did play for the Air Force. He even made their All-Army Air Forces All-Conference team.

He continued his career following the war and played great football for the rest of the time he was in the league. He retired in 1952. He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
