With the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions all winning their respective games in Week 3, it was vital for the Chicago Bears to do the same. Fortunately, the Bears took care of business on Monday night when they defeated the Washington Redskins by the score of 31-15.

This win gives Chicago a 2-1 record, and snaps a seven-game losing streak to Washington. This victory keeps the Bears from being cellar dwellers in the NFC North, and gives them great momentum going into Week 4.

The offense finally woke up and put some points on the board, scoring three touchdowns—by far their best performance of the young season. The passing game was responsible for all three touchdowns, and the running game produced late in the game when it counted most.

On the other side of the ball, the defense was more impressive than the offense. By night’s end, Chicago recorded three interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four sacks, and a defensive touchdown. A 12-play, 92-yard touchdown drive by the Redskins did make things a bit interesting for a while, but a critical takeaway in the fourth quarter helped ice the game for the Bears.

Even with a gimpy kicker, the special teams unit did what they had to do.

This striking performance by the entire team wasn’t flawless, but it did calm the nerves of all Bears fans everywhere. More importantly, it proves that the Monsters of the Midway are slowly, but surely, making their claim as favorites to repeat as division champions, and to be Super Bowl contenders.
