2. The defense has more upside than last year

The Chicago Bears defense has been unbelievable this year, and their 4-turnover performance against Washington was no different. When the team moved from Vic Fangio to Chuck Pagano, regression was the talk. However, the word they did not say was aggression.

Fangio is a great coach, but he was passive. He did not blitz, and he often relied on the talent of his defense to keep things in front and make sound tackles. Pagano is aggressive. He is blitzing often. He moves his defensive front around. He shuffles his safeties. Pagano is taking calculated shots.

So far, we have seen the repercussions. The Bears have six turnovers and 11 sacks. They are on pace for 58 sacks and 30 turnovers, compared to 32 turnovers and 50 sacks last season. There is no drop off with the potential for improvement through three weeks. Look for this aggressive defense to continue to get the ball back, and force bad plays with a more aggressive style of attack this year than last.
