2. Get the Ground Game Going

In the Bears first game against the Packers, the Bears didn’t run the ball enough. Against the Broncos they balanced it out but still didn’t run the ball great. Last week against the Redskins they threw the ball more again and were successful but the times they did run they didn’t do it well.

David Montgomery did end up with a 5.2 yards per carry average, but that was aided by a late 25-yard run. On his other 12 carries, he had just 42 yards. The rest of the team wasn’t much better as overall the Bears averaged just 3.8 yards a carry., That is not good enough to win a lot of games for a team counting on the rushing attack to do some damage.

The Vikings defense has been great against the rush this year. They are barely giving up 100 yards a game and they will be tough for the Bears to run against. But that doesn’t mean they can’t figure out ways to get it going.

The Bears have to get it more involved and find ways to move the sticks. Trubisky did play fairly well against the Redskins, but if they can’t run the ball the Vikings defense can pin their ears back and get after him. We have all seen that Trubisky is not the best when he is pressured and getting a balance with the run game can help that out. It will allow for the play-action to work and the RPO’s Nagy likes to call.

The Bears need to find a way to average over five yards a carry if they want to win this game. If they can do that then they put the Vikings on their heels a bit and it should open up the passing game some.
