Wilber Marshall

Wilber Marshall was a stalwart in the Chicago Bears’ defense during the 1985 season. He came to the Bears in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft. He was the 11th pick.

Marshall became an important part of the high flying and deadly Bears defense during the year that they went to the Super Bowl. He made many plays and was one of the stars of that defense.

In 1988, Marshall decided to sign with the Washington Redskins as he became the first free agent in 11 seasons to sign with a different team. The Bears got two first-round draft picks for Marshall so they weren’t left without something.

He was with the Redskins from 1988 to 1992 and won a second Super Bowl ring with them. He then went on to play one season for the then Houston Oilers, one season with the Arizona Cardinals and then one season, his final season, with the New York Jets. Marshall won many honors while he was in the league, most of them with the Redskins.

Knowing this, it’s highly likely that Marshall may enter the Hall of Fame as a Redskin. He did most of his finest work done during that time. You never see Marshall at Bears’ events so it appears as if he may have disassociated himself from the Bears.

Don’t count on him being a Bear when/if he enters the Hall of Fame.
