1. Alexander Mattison
Before the draft, our draft rankings had David Montgomery is a tier with the top runners such as Darrell Henderson, Miles Sanders, and Josh Jacobs. After those four was a new tier with many varying opinions. One of the sleepers we identified for Chicago if they missed out on Montgomery was Alexander Mattison.
Mattison is a powerful runner who is also light on his feet. He has been backing up Cook, so he has not set the world on fire, but he has shown great burst as a runner, and brings a bit of thunder to the lightning that is Cook.
Mattison has 25 carries for 132 yards and a touchdown, averaging over 5 yards per carry. To put that into perspective Montgomery has 12 more carries for just 15 more yards. Mattison has been efficient.
It is tough to change your defensive mindset when Cook is running so hot, and the changeup with Mattison comes in. He has been worked into the mix more and more as Minnesota leads the NFL in rushing attempts. While the motto all week will be stuff Dalvin Cook, the Bears cannot let the underrated Mattison squirt free.
