As the Chicago Bears attempt to fix things during their bye week, we take a look at how the start of the 2018 season is similar to the start of the 2019 season.

The bye week in the NFL should be a time for the three Rs. Rest, relaxation and most importantly reflection. With the way the Chicago Bears offense has been this year, that unit better focus on reflection. The start of this year has had its ups and downs. However, it seems most people forget how the 2018 season started and this year has many similarities.

Before we dive in, I must point out that although the seasons are eerily similar, there are some glaring differences as well. First and foremost, the offense has struggled to put up points in three of the five games this season. Including a defensive score, the Chicago Bears have put up a total of 87 points over five games. This is good for 17.4 points per game.

In 2018, the Chicago Bears scored 139 total points over the first five weeks and was averaging 27.8 points per game. This is a very big difference and a big reason why fans do not feel comfortable with the current situation. Comfortable is not quite the right way to describe things. Bears fans are lacking confidence right now.

Fans are lacking confidence in Mitchell Trubisky. Many are calling for the team to make a trade just to bring in a guy like Eli Manning or Josh Rosen. Many are lacking confidence in the coaching staff and front office. I have heard some call for the firing of both Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace. How quickly did they forget how well the team performed in 2018?

This is why I have to point out just how similar the start to these two seasons are through the first five weeks.
