Chicago Bears: Three keys to beat the New Orleans Saints
By Adam Childs
Contain Bridgewater
Teddy Bridgewater has done a great job of filling in for Drew Brees. The Saints have gone undefeated without Brees and lead the AFC South, but they haven’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard.
That is good news for the Bears as their offense has struggled to score also. Although, to keep the Saints offense grounded they must contain Bridgewater. He is a decent passer, but he can use his legs to extend plays and the Bears need to keep him from doing that.
The defense must keep containment on him and not let him get outside where they can create big plays on ones that originally seem broken. Bridgewater hasn’t made many mistakes but the defense needs to put the pressure on him. If they can do that, they might be able to force him into mistakes he might not normally make.
Yes, the Saints will want to run the ball against the Bears and the Bears did struggle to stop Josh Jacobs in London, but that was the first running back to have success this year against Chicago. The Chicago Bears have normally been very good against the run, so that leaves Bridgewater.
If the Bears can contain him and force him into mistakes they should be in good shape to win the game. The Bears have the advantage of playing at home and Brees being out. They need to make sure they don’t miss this opportunity to get a win.
