The Chicago Bears starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky has had a very concerning response to pressure in 2019

We all know that Mitch Trubisky has not taken that step forward in year two quite yet. With the bye week and a week off due to his injury, it was a good chance for him to get a breather and assess what he can do better to make the most of a late season stretch run.

One of the bigger concerns with Trubisky heading into the stretch run of the season has to be his ability to handle pressure. Last season, he was actually better than most under pressure. He seemed to be better when he was just playing and not thinking. We saw that in the playoff in the fourth quarter.

However, this year, he has regressed immensely under pressure. As shown below, he drops over 83 points in passer rating when the pressure is coming in on him. It is the second worst decline in the NFL.

This can be worrisome for Trubisky. If he is struggling in the areas he was good at last year, it is worse than if he had just plateued from last season. However, this can also be on his offensive line.

Trubisky is under pressure more often than he was last season. It will be interesting to see if Kyle Long really was that much of a hinderance. It is not like Ted Larsen will be a huge impact.

Bobby Massie and Charles Leno may get better as well, but the pressure may continue to come.

There is also the idea that Trubisky adds to the pressure by over thinking and struggling to maneuver the pocket. This still says more about his season to date than anything.

Can Mitch Trubisky step up and get back to at least average in this area?
