The Chicago Bears offense has so many issues that you cannot fix it in the remaining games
The Chicago Bears are sitting at a cross roads in 2019. Their loss to the New Orleans Saints was unprecedented in the Matt Nagy era, and it has brought in a ton of questions considering the team lost right before the bye week as well.
The Bears offense has not looked good all season, outside of a beating of Washington. While there is plenty of time for the offense to get things straight, it is not going to happen. At least not this season. Here are five reasons why.
5. Secondary Pass catchers
Allen Robinson is not the reason this offense is struggling. I am not breaking news with this revelation. However, all of the other pass-catchers are. Anthony Miller has been a major disappointment. The fact of the matter is that he is not going to get much better.
We have questioned in the past if he was limited, and just shined due to the fact that he was older than his competition at Memphis. Miller has spurts, but injuries have held him back. Now, he is pressing to make a play and is costing the team more than helping. Miller is not a savior of this offense if he got going, but where he is at now, he is hurting more helping.
Taylor Gabriel is a deep threat but does not have a quarterback throwing deep right now. Add in an injury and he has been completely ineffective. The team has looked to Cordarrelle Patterson over the middle of the field. We thought that Patterson would be used in the offense, but not in this manner.
When you break down these pieces, they are limited to a specific role. When they are asked to step out of that role, they are set up to fail. The offense has versatility, but each piece has a tell. Unless Miller can gain deep speed, Gabriel can gain strength over the middle, and Patterson can be a better route runner, the offense is going to be stuck on over-targeting Robinson.
