If the Chicago Bears are going to beat the Los Angelas Chargers they are going to need to win these five matchups
Nobody is calling for a win right now in Chicago. The Chicago Bears are not trending in a great way, and after a majorly disappointing performance against the New Orleans Saints, it is appearing that tensions are high.
However, not all is lost. The Chargers have lost to the Broncos, Steelers, and Titans. That is Joe Flacco, Devlin Hodges, and Ryan Tannehill.
This is a huge game for the Bears to prove that while they may not be fixed, they are not a bottom tier roster. If the Bears want to spare embarrassment what are five matchups that they must win?
5. Stopping Keenan Allen
The passing game funnels through Keenan Allen. To stop Allen would be a huge hindrance to what Phillip Rivers and the offense can do. Given the talent the Bears have at cornerback, this should not be a huge issue.
However, on Sunday, the Saints ran multiple formations with just one wide receiver on the field and Michael Thomas still found a way. Look at his route chart. It was on Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, and Buster Skrine.
The Bears play off-coverage and play sides. They have ran a similar look since Vic Fangio. However, Thomas soaked up the coverage and took what he could.
Allen moves all over the formation as well. He is going to get matched up on Skrine, the worst cornerback. Chuck Pagano has been touted as bringing something different from the Fangio defense. Traveling Fuller with Allen and pressing Allen to shut him down would be a different wrench that Fangio did not show.
If they do not, do not be surprised if Allen has a similar stat line to Thomas.
