The Chicago Bears are coming off a disaster of a game against New Orleans on Sunday. Can they bounce back and get a must-win against Los Angeles this week?
The Chicago Bears entered last Sunday’s game against the Saints with a great chance to make a statement and essentially be tied with the Saints in the playoff hunt. Well, they made a statement alright but not one that they were looking for.
The defense didn’t play well and they were the best unit on the field for the Bears. The special teams were bad (except for Cordarrelle Patterson‘s kick return); see blocked punt turned safety and a punt return for touchdown luckily called back. The bad thing is they weren’t even the worst unit on the field. That would belong to the offense.
Take out the last two drives for the Bears and they had just 120 yards of total offense. They gained 132 in their last two drives but they were already down 36-10 and it was garbage time.
The offense is broken right now and there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut answer. Mitchell Trubisky came back but looked bad. Matt Nagy only called seven rushing attempts and the Bears struggled to even get a first down. If it weren’t for Patterson’s kick return in the first half the Bears would have barely scored.
Even with all that has gone wrong the Bears still sit at 3-3 and are a favorite against the Chargers this weekend. They had the same record last year, but this year seems much different. It does not seem like the Bears can roll off a big winning streak and get back into the playoff picture.
They need to change the narrative this weekend and get back on track or this will be a lost season. So what are the keys for them to do that? We take a look at them and what the Bears must do.
