The Chicago Bears were not active during the trade deadline this year
Leading up to the trade deadline, rumors were flying around like crazy. Could the Bears replace Akiem Hicks? Do they need a tight end? And of course, what about that quarterback? Many names were tossed around, but none were tied close to the Chicago Bears.
As the deadline passed, we learned that the team had no moves up their sleeves. They held firm.
This is not a huge surprise. To start, they are up against the cap with even less space next season. They have to be creative in who they add. On top of that, they are short on picks right now. They are not the team that everyone is calling.
On top of that, something we wrote is that the team is going to go down with Trubisky this year. They have nine games to make sure there is absolutely nothing worth holding out hope for. They have nine games to learn just how bad of a decision they made. Trubisky is going to play out the year and they are going to have an offseason to get creative about replacing him.
However, there is nothing the team could have done at the deadline. C.J. Beathard rumors floated around, but Bears fans would have loved Beathard until they saw him play. Players like Beathard are the reason players like Trubisky keep getting chances. Trubisky is struggling, but is not that bad.
So, the Bears were in no position to buy resources wise. They also are not quite bad enough to sell it all. Easy decision to stay pat.
