A Look at the Chicago Bears Bobblehead Giveaway
Mike Ditka
Mike Ditka’s bobblehead was the first bobblehead handed out during the regular season. It was fitting that his likeness would be handed out in a game against the Green Bay Packers. Ditka did not like the Packers.
Ditka came to Chicago as a first-round pick in the 1961 NFL Draft and played with the Bears from 1961 to 1967. He earned Rookie of the Year honors and was selected to the Pro Bowl as a tight end during his time with the Bears. After he was with Chicago, he went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.
He got into coaching with the Cowboys and then was hired by George Halas to take over coaching responsibilities for the Bears. Ditka did not disappoint as helped to take the Bears to their first (and currently only) Super Bowl win.
Some consider him the best coach in Chicago Bears’ history.
Ditka was fired from his coaching spot in 1992. He went on to coach the New Orleans Saints for some time but always remained true to the Bears. He retired and took up television for a little bit. He recently turned 80 years old.
