Sid Luckman

The week ten bobblehead that will be handed out is in the likeness of former Bears’ quarterback Sid Luckman. Luckman played with the Bears from 1939 to 1950. He is most famous for being the quarterback in the Bears’ T-formation which helped them move the ball efficiently and effectively. With Luckman and their T-formation, the Bears were a dominant team in the 1940s and won several championships.

Head coach George Halas managed to persuade Luckman to play professional football after he had declined at the outset. A little bit of Halas magic and a good contract is all it took to bring Luckman to Chicago and help launch one of the greatest runs in franchise history.

Luckman was able to comprehend Halas’ offense quickly and led the Bears to the promised land several times. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965 and still has a few Bears’ passing records although quite a few have been eclipsed by more recent quarterbacks.

Luckman passed away in July of 1998.
