The NFL is nine weeks into the season. This is essentially the midway point and teams need to start assessing themselves and make changes for the future. As we assess the Chicago Bears offense, Allen Robinson is easily the most valuable player throughout the first eight games.

This was a difficult one to even write. As we think about the Chicago Bears offense, the most valuable player does not even come remotely close to the forefront of our brains. Trash is more like it. Inconsistent would be another term. That said, the Bears have played half of their games and we should look at awarding someone for their performance.

If we look at the overall performance of this offense, only two names come to mind in a positive light and only one stands out above the rest.

Runner-up

The runner-up in this category and who in all honesty will be the second-half MVP of the Chicago Bears offense if he continues his most recent success is David Montgomery. Montgomery has looked superb the last two games and I absolutely love his career potential in this league. His yards-per-carry is up to 3.6 and he has three rushing touchdowns over the last two games.

He had a big drop in the loss to the Eagles though. This is something I did not expect to see from him. Montgomery currently has 406 yards rushing and five touchdowns. He also has 18 catches for 133 yards. Montgomery has excelled while running behind blockers. He is difficult to go down and has great balance that allows him to escape.

Mid-Season Offensive MVP

Now, the real offensive MVP award goes to Allen Robinson. Robinson has been the most consistent offensive weapon on this team. He has to be frustrated after leaving Blake Bortles in Jacksonville to now have Mitchell Trubisky overthrowing and underthrowing him often.

Despite the rest of the offensive woes, Robinson has three touchdowns this year. He also has 532 yards receiving on 47 catches. He did not have a good performance against the Eagles though. A dropped pass and a catch that he could not keep his feet in bounds cost him a better day.

That said, he has a catch percentage this year of 66.5 percent. This is the best year he has had in this area outside of his breakout year in 2015. If his number project throughout the rest of the year he should finish with 142 targets, 94 catches and 1,064 yards. Touchdowns are fluky but projections would have him with six. That is one heck of a season.

The Chicago Bears are getting ready to start the back half of the year. Can Montgomery maintain his performance? Will Allen Robinson stay hot like the first seven games or cool off as he did in Philadelphia? Maybe Mitchell Trubisky surprises us and becomes the second-half MVP? Alright, enough with the jokes. All I know is this season is not what we expected and we need to find a way to enjoy watching this team again.
