If the Chicago Bears want to beat the Detroit Lions, they have to win these particular matchups.

The last month has not been fun for Chicago Bears fans. While it may feel like it is never going to end, the Bears are going to find some sort of semblance before the end of the season. You could see in moments against Philadelphia that the group was getting out of their funk.

However, it was not enough. Fortunately for the Bears, they have the Detroit Lions, who are also reeling. The Bears beat the Lions twice last season. Of course, a win here is no guarantee. If the Bears want to have a chance to beat a lowly Lions group, they must win these matchups.

David Montgomery vs run defense

It is tough to say what has been more disappointing this year, the Bears run offense or the Lions run defense. The Bears run offense has been slightly worse, but they have started to play well in the past couple of weeks. A breakout against a poor Chargers run defense was vital to staying in the game.

On the other side, the Lions run defense is not trending well. Names such as Trey Flowers and Damon Harrison were brought in, and improvement has not followed. They rank 18th in rushing efficiency, and their defensive line ranks 29th in adjusted line yards. They rank 28th and 29th in stuff rank and power success respectively.

This means that runs are not being stuffed in the backfield, and are not being stuffed for a yard or two either. More runs than not are going for positive gains against Detroit.

Chicago tried to run against Philadelphia, but the Eagles have a great run defense. The Lions are much closer to the Chargers, so we need to see similar results.
