Tee Higgins, WR – Clemson

With the earlier of the two second-round picks the Chicago Bears own in the 2020 NFL Draft, WalterFootball.com has the Bears selecting Tee Higgins, wide receiver out of Clemson. This one surprises me. Not that I think Higgins is bad, but the Bears have already invested a great deal into their wide receiver corps.

The team has Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller and Cordarrelle Patterson all playing significant roles. Ryan Pace also drafted Riley Ridley in the 2019 NFL Draft. Ridley has yet to play in a single regular-season game, but expectations are that he should see a bigger role next year. This does not even include Javon Wims who was a star in the preseason but has not done much since.

In 2018, Higgins caught 59 passes for 936 yards and 12 touchdowns. In nine games this year, he has 32 catches for 662 yards and four touchdowns. Higgins would be a great addition to this team with Taylor Gabriel possibly on his way out this offseason. However, you need someone to be able to throw him the football and the Bears are struggling with that right now.

Terrell Lewis, DE/OLB – Alabama

Most players who come out of Alabama lately project to be solid NFL players. The program has been elite throughout the college ranks for a while now. Both of the Chicago Bears safeties, Eddie Jackson and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix are Alabama alums.

If the Bears took a quarterback with their first second-round pick, then I would be very happy with adding Terrell Lewis here. The Bears need depth and fresh blood added to their OLB roster. Leonard Floyd is having another up and down season. He just cannot play consistently. He might not make it past the 2020 season.

Lewis has dealt with some injuries during his time at Alabama, but if healthy could prove to be a great pick here in the second round. In 2019, he already has six sacks and nine tackles for a loss. He would make a great fit on an already stellar defense.

It should be noted that WalterFootball.com has four quarterbacks going in the first round. Two of those quarterbacks are Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason. Two guys I was hoping would fall to the second round. If a quarterback does not drop to them, then I can understand the reasoning behind looking elsewhere.

That said, they also have Joe Burrow being available and the Chicago Bears passing on him. Burrow seems to be pushing for a first-round grade and I’d expect him not to be available. That said, I would take one of the guys who were drafted ahead of the Bears pick or Burrow over either of these two options. If they do not go quarterback here, they must look for one on Day 3.
