The Chicago Bears made a surprising move when they announced Adam Shaheen would be inactive.

Adam Shaheen has been a major disappointment for the Chicago Bears in 2019. Calls to bench and even cut the third year struggling tight end have come out from Bears fans across the past couple of weeks.

However, heading into the weekend, it seemed as though Shaheen was still fully in the plans. What we learned on Sunday is that the coaches were starting to feel the same sentiment. Despite being short on tight ends, the team announced Shaheen as an inactive.

This could be a temporary thing. As mentioned, the Bears are very short at the position. They cannot just cut tight ends, no matter how disappointing.

Still, J.P. Holtz clearly is out playing Shaheen. That is really bad for a former second round pick.

Shaheen may stick around, but he may not see his fourth year in Chicago. He has nine receptions for 74 yards this season. 26 receptions for 249 yards in his career. He has showed a limited ability as a blocker, and fumbled the kick off that ultimately led to a Bears loss last week.

Shaheen is going to go down as one of the more embarrassing picks of the Ryan Pace tenure. Especially when you look at George Kittle going three rounds later in the same draft. Good thing fans are so focued on Mitch Trubisky, DeShaun Watson, and Patrick Mahomes, right? Hope you catch the sarcasm.

Bears wisely release Mike Davis. dark. Next

Nonetheless, whether this is a benching or a sign of things to come, it is an official low point in the career of Shaheen.
