Chicago Bears: 3 free agent linebackers available to fill Danny Trevathan void
Zach Brown
The best option for the Chicago Bears right now would be adding Zach Brown. Brown was playing as a role player for the Philadelphia Eagles up until a few weeks ago. The Eagles released Brown, not because of his play on the field, but instead because of comments he made about Kirk Cousins.
Brown was not starting for the Eagles, but he was seeing his fair share of rotational snaps. He saw 256 (68.4 percent) of the Eagles’ defensive snaps over the six games he was a part of the team. During that time, Brown racked up 29 combined tackles and two tackles for a loss. Unfortunately, the organization did not like the comments made and Brown still finds himself without a team.

Let me back up for a minute here. The comments were not that bad in my opinion. He threw out some trash talk about Kirk Cousins, a teammate of his when they were both a part of the Washington Redskins. Leading up to the game, he said that Cousins was the weakest part of the Vikings’ offense. It was not like he made a crack about Cousins’ wife or mother.
The Eagles must not have liked the fact that Brown was unable to back up his trash talk though. The Vikings beat the Eagles 38-20 that week. Not to mention, Cousins threw four touchdowns in that game. Brown was released the following day.
Prior to that game though, Brown was making the most of his opportunities. At the time, Brown was in the top five of Pro Football Focus’ run-stop rate. If the Bears could add him to the roster, he would make a strong depth piece. Not to mention, he’d have another crack at Kirk Cousins this year. Maybe he could prove that his play was not the cause of the Eagles woes and help the Bears defense put a stop to Cousins once again.
Adding a guy like Brown would be more than a depth piece at this point. He has the talent to find his way right behind Nick Kwiatkowski on the depth chart.
