Eric Ebron – Indianapolis Colts

I have always been an Eric Ebron fan. I thought the Lions did not use him properly and as we watch the production of T.J. Hockenson, it seems I was right. The Lions did not extend Ebron beyond his rookie year and he signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. His contract was a two-year, $13 million dollars deal.

Last season, Ebron was phenomenal, especially within the end zone. Ebron saw 110 targets by Andrew Luck last year. The most he saw while in Detroit was 87. Ebron caught 66 of those for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns. Yes, that is correct. Ebron had 13 touchdowns last season for the Colts.

Fast forward to 2019 and things have not been as great, but we need to put things into perspective. First of all, Andrew Luck retired unexpectedly. Jacoby Brissett has done a great job filling in for him, but he is still not Luck. In nine games, Ebron has seen 43 targets. That only projects to 76 total targets on the year.

With those targets though, Ebron has 23 catches for 304 yards and three touchdowns. If the Bears were able to get anything near that type of production from their tight ends this year, they’d be ecstatic.

Ebron would be my top choice based on age (26), talent and potential contract cost. Based on his last deal and his fall off in production this year, I think he could be signed to somewhere around $25 million dollars over three years.
