The Chicago Bears benched Mitch Trubisky for a hip injury he suffered in the second quarter, Did these two players help contribute?

Whether you want to believe that Mitch Trubisky was injured or not, he got sacked late in the first half and took a knee to the hip. The effects of that are completely unknown. This play is never going to be forgotten by Chicago Bears fans, but beyond the Matt Nagy, Mitch Trubisky drama is the rest of the play which is an encapsulation of the whole season.

To start, the offensive line did not help, which is almost expected with the 2019 group. However, watch the end of the play from the All-22 angle on the play here.

Take note of Taylor Gabriel and Anthony Miller, on the right side. Neither fight back to the football in the scramble drill. Both run their routes and move on. However, watch the play again. Look at the two images below. First, look at Trubisky. He keeps the play alive, and is looking to the middle of the field.

You can see that there is open space. While Allen Robinson and Ben Brauncker worked back to the football, they also sucked their men in. There is a gap open in the middle of the field where one of the two receivers could have worked back to which would give their quarterback a shot. Trubisky was looking for it.

An offensive line breakdown, a quarterback scrambling, and his receiver without the trust in their quarterback to make a play work. Has Trubisky struggled? Yes, he has. But it has been a team issue with the 2019 Bears offense, and the play that saw Trubisky banged up and eventually led to controversy showed that perfectly.

Matt Nagy benched Adam Shaheen for effort-related issues. Anthony Miller has been in hot water all year. Is it time to send a message?
