The football gods must be still smiling down on the Chicago Bears, because after Week 12 they are still in the hunt for a wild card spot in the playoffs. The Bears improved their record to 5-6 with a win over the New York Giants by the score of 19-14.

This victory didn’t come easy. Despite gaining over 300 total yards from scrimmage for only the second time this season, Chicago’s offense still showed signs of struggle. Two turnovers were committed by the Bears, and the running game just couldn’t get going.

The defense allowed a fourth-quarter touchdown that kept New York’s hopes alive, but did record a big takeaway in the third quarter that gave the Bears a big swing of momentum. Luckily, the team dodged a couple of bullets with two missed field goals by the Giants, which turned out being the difference between winning and going into overtime.

For the seventh time this year, Chicago has had a game that has ended with a final score that was decided by just one possession. In those seven games, the Bears are 3-4. With so many close games, there is a good chance that there could be more to come near the end of this season.

With that being said, and with every game being so crucial, Chicago can ill afford to make any major mistakes from this point forward in order to have a fighting chance at making the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

Now that there is one big win in the books, let’s look at their Week 12 report card.
