The Chicago Bears lost Bobby Massie to an ankle injury in the win over the New York Giants on Sunday. He was seen in a walking boot and should miss a few weeks.

The Chicago Bears have struggled this season. They have been relatively healthy outside of Akiem Hicks and Danny Trevathan. The defense has still been a top-five unit despite the two missing significant time. Now, the Bears are losing their starting right tackle Bobby Massie to an ankle injury. According to ESPN 1000, it sounds like Bobby Massie will miss a few weeks while in a walking boot.

The question is how do the Bears handle the loss of Massie now. During the New York Giants game, the team played Cornelius Lucas at the right tackle position. Lucas has experience as a five-year veteran, but I think I’d rather see what Alex Bars could do on this line.

Alex Bars was promoted from the practice squad a couple of weeks back but has yet to play in a game. With the season all about evaluating roster talent at this point, I would prefer that the Bears see what Bars can do. I’d prefer Bars at the guard position, but the Bears actually have him listed as the fourth tackle on the depth chart behind Lucas.

In limited action in the preseason, Bars played both guard and tackle. Although he was going up against the weaker competition in second and third stringers, Bars played well enough that I thought he’d make the team. The Patriots tried stealing him off the Bears practice squad, but Bars decided to stay in Chicago for a bump in salary.

Alex Bars was projected to be a top offensive lineman before his injury in college. He should be given an opportunity to play this year. The Bears made the right move in bringing Jesper Horsted up from the practice squad this week. The move was a little too late, in my opinion, but at least it was made. Could the Bears do something similar this week by promoting Alex Bars?

Next. Should the Bears cut this player?. dark

With it being such a short week, my guess is no. I will give them the benefit of the doubt here on playing Lucas at right tackle against the Lions. That said, I would love to see them make the switch before they face off against the Cowboys in Week 14.
