Chicago Bears: An early look at offensive 2020 draft needs
Quarterback
This is a tender subject for Bears fans but it has to be talked about. Chicago has some serious issues at quarterback. Their quarterback of the future, Mitchell Trubisky, is not playing anywhere close to where the Bears need him to be playing. They are losing games because of him and it doesn’t appear as if he is getting any better.
It may be time for the Bears to cut their losses and look elsewhere. Even though, some of what ails Trubisky is not all his fault. His offensive line has struggled, his receivers drop passes and the play-calling has been less than stellar. But it is clear, they need to get someone that can push Trubisky either to play better or out of the job.
Free agency could be a good place to look for a quarterback to start. Perhaps trying to make a trade for someone like Cam Newton, Marcus Mariotta or Andy Dalton would work. But they cannot afford to make another mistake at the quarterback position. Time is going by and they need to hit the nail on the head the first time.
The draft has a few interesting possibilities at quarterback but the Bears don’t have a first-round pick. Maybe they shouldn’t use a first-round pick on a quarterback though as they obviously don’t know what they are doing with their first-round picks. Someone special could fall to them in the second round and the Bears could develop this player behind a veteran who can get them further than Trubisky could have.
It sounds like a good idea, right? But could the Bears actually put it into practice?
Their history with quarterbacks has been very weak, to say the least. Do we trust Pace and the rest of his staff to actually bring in someone who will lead them to the promised land? Or perhaps should they stick to Trubisky until this current regime is let go then go with someone else?
Either way, the draft may be the way that the Bears right the ship and get something good going at quarterback. They just need to be right about the decisions that they make.
