Offensive Tackle

Let’s face it, Charles Leno, Jr., has lost a step and Bobby Massie is slowly starting to become more of a liability. This means that the Bears are going to need to find, at the least, some depth at the right and left offensive tackle position to help them overcome injuries when they happen and push the starters ahead of them.

Leno is a serviceable blocker but does struggle at times. The problem is, the Bears signed him to a sizeable contract a couple of years ago and would have to deal with any fallout that they would have should they decide to let him go. What they really need is to bring in a young left tackle to groom and eventually replace Leno. That player could be found through the draft, perhaps.

Bobby Massie isn’t that bad, he’s just not that consistent. He struggles at times and is also a little bit of a health risk. The Bears should consider doing something similar to Massie as I outlined for Leno. They need to start grooming the right tackle of the future and next year wouldn’t be a bad time to start. Maybe they can find someone in the draft that they like and can eventually take over?

Depth is also a bit of an issue for this position. If they can afford to, they should try to get some depth at the tackle position in the draft or if they can find someone in free agency for cheap, that might work out well. It is imperative that they do something about this soon or else it is going to come back and cause them issues.
