Jack Conklin

The story of Rashaad Coward becoming an offensive lineman in the NFL is a good one. He was a defensive lineman who was converted into an offensive lineman. I can relate as someone who had to play both sides of the ball in pee-wee football. Alright, this is not quite the same thing, but I did win most improved player that season as I had to learn how to play offensive line.

Brandon Scherff is easily the best free-agent guard available in free agency this upcoming offseason. No one else stands out to me as a huge improvement unless you want to pay a guy like Richie Incognito. No thank you. Although the team is set with their book ends in Charles Leno and Bobby Massie, maybe they look to add depth or try to move someone inside to guard.

Maybe Jack Conklin could be that guy who they sign and move inside to guard? Conklin is 6’6″ and 308lbs. He would be a little tall for the inside, but Scherff is 6’5″ and I think Conklin would be just fine and not too tall where it becomes a sight issue for the quarterback. Conklin is not the greatest offensive lineman, but he is still relatively young and would come cheaper than Scherff.

Tennessee has always had a solid running game and Conklin is one reason why. Adding him to the Bears line in 2020 would definitely be an upgrade if he’s willing to move inside for the right price.
