At least they are not the Lions

Yikes. Even if the Chicago Bears find a way to lose this game to the Detroit Lions today, the Bears are still in a better position than their rival across the lake. One has to believe that the Bears’ offensive struggles are somewhat of a fluke. Things just have not gone the Bears way this season over and over again. It seems as though one person on offense finds a way to screw up each play.

Last season, this offense scored 26 points per game. This year they are averaging less than 12. Even with how poorly Mitchell Trubisky has been and even with how bad some of Matt Nagy’s play-calling has been, this team has to be at least somewhere in the middle. So how are the Bears by far better than the Lions?

The answer is simple. The Lions are constantly bottom feeding. They hardly ever make the playoffs. They have never made it to a Super Bowl and their quarterback is quickly deteriorating. As great as Matthew Stafford was this season, his back/hip injury has to be concerning. He dealt with a back injury in 2018 too. Is Stafford’s time coming to an end from all his wear and tear?

Not to mention, the Bears’ future still looks brighter than the Lions despite everything that has gone wrong this year. It seems for everything that went right last season, things have gone doubly wrong this season. The good news is that this defense will remain nearly intact for 2020 and with the poor performance overall this year, Chuck Pagano will likely be sticking around.

Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy will have one more year to get things right before they are on the hot seat. They both have two years left on their current contracts and Pace’s overall record as the Bears general manager is meek at best despite adding some quality talent to an almost talentless roster when he took over.
