The Chicago Bears had a huge win in Detroit on Thanksgiving Day, could this possibly lead to a turnaround of the season and a playoff run?

After a well-deserved win against the Detriot Lions on Thanksgiving, could this Bears team run the table and miraculously make the playoffs? I don’t want to sound like the Grinch, but unfortunately, the answer is no. I am hoping they make me eat crow and take back everything that I write.

Even though there have been crazier things that have happened in the NFL, it would take an awful lot for it to happen. While teams can collapse at any time (insert Dallas Cowboys here) the Chicago Bears need to be playing at a much higher level to compete against the elite teams in the NFC.

It was a great step in the right direction for Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears offense. The opening drive was what we have been waiting for all season long. It was a smooth, executed, offensive series that showed off why Mitch was chosen as the second pick in the 2017 NFL draft. I’m not saying the Bears should have drafted Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes or DeShaun Watson but what I’m saying is for a quarterback who has been critiqued heavily (myself included) it was nice to see him shine.

The last drive saw Mitchell Trubisky become the quarterback that we always thought he could be. It was what a winning quarterback looks like. He had an abundance of confidence and composure.  Anthony Miller excelled in his game, and the offensive line played superior. Other players that shined on the offense were David Montgomery, Allen Robinson, and rookie tight end Jesper Horsted. Cordarrelle Patterson should not be forgotten for his outstanding special teams play as well.

The opening drive for the defense showed the lack of composure a team needs to make a playoff run. The Chicago Bears defense has played very well this year, but there have been some games that have had moments that make you scratch your head. It seems that these miscued moments are really big ones.

For example, the blown coverage by Prince Amukamara against Kenny Golladay shifted the momentum that was just gained by the Chicago Bears offense. It also caused Lions rookie quarterback David Blough to gain confidence and to piece together a couple back to back scoring drives. Could you imagine if the Bears defense shut down the Lions on that opening drive and made a statement? It could have been huge.

The problem with the Chicago Bears is that they have not played a complete game yet. Many can argue that it was close to complete versus the Washington Redskins, however, I am looking for a dominant performance. I don’t need a blowout, but I do need to see consistency on all three levels. I also need the coaching staff to be consistent as well.

Next. Trubisky to be starter in 2020. dark

Right now the Chicago Bears are on a winning streak and that is all we can be thankful for this time of year after a disappointing season so far. While I don’t believe a playoff berth is on this year’s table, I will still be rooting for our beloved Bears each week no matter the outcome.
