The first step for the Chicago Bears playoff hopes was a win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. Now that the Bears are .500 on the year, here is the unlikely path the team can take to the playoffs.

The Chicago Bears have struggled this season. If we look back on the earlier games this year, the team missed out on many opportunities to be a lock for the playoffs. Losses to the Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams stand out the most. They should have won at least one if not all of those games.

The team cannot go back in time (unless someone knows anyone with a Delorean and flux capacitor), but what they can do is look to the future. As cliche as it sounds, the team needs to take it one game at a time. Before this can happen though, Minnesota needs to lose to the Seattle Seahawks tonight.

The Vikings are the team the Bears are chasing in the Wild Card race. In order for the team to have any chance, the Vikings need to lose Monday. Right now their record is 8-3. If the Vikings move onto 9-3, the Bears’ chances at the playoffs would be over. However, with a Vikings loss, they would only be two games out.

A quick look at the current standings in the NFC looks like this.

  1. San Francisco 49ers (10-2)
  2. New Orleans Saints (10-2)
  3. Green Bay Packers (9-3)
  4. Dallas Cowboys (6-6)
  5. Seattle Seahawks (9-2)*
  6. Minnesota Vikings (8-3)*

Courtesy of the Action Network, the Seahawks are three-point favorites at home. Fingers are crossed Bears fans and although the odds are stacked against our team, the hope is still alive. Tomorrow we will all be Seahawks fans.

With the team still technically in the playoff hunt, here is a weekly breakdown of everything the team will need in order to make the playoffs this season.
