If Javon Wims can help his quarterback, the Chicago Bears are going to keep trusting him

With the injury to Taylor Gabriel, Javon Wims saw his first taste of big NFL action on Sunday. Wims has played as a rotational receiver but was a key piece of the game plan on Sunday. Wims cashed in a career day, five receptions for 56 yards, taking advantage of his moments.

The stat line is not undeniable, and his impact was only so big. However, he made enough plays to earn trust in the offense moving forward. The play below stands out the most.

Wims runs a solid route and is open. However, as he looks back to the ball, pressure has come from the left side of the offensive line, and Mitch Trubisky is scrambling.

Wims does a great job at reading his quarterback, adjusting his route, and finding open space to give his QB a player to throw the ball to.

A broken play drill executed for a first down should not be the highest praise and did not change the game. However, just two weeks ago this was a talking point in Chicago as Trubisky suffered a hip injury on a play where Anthony Miller and Taylor Gabriel did not run back to the ball on a scramble drill.

It is a different circumstance considering Trubisky rolled to Wims. Still, it was important to see Wims show the recognition of where he is, and find a way to make a play for his quarterback.

Trubisky has not seen much help this year and seeing Wims make a play is key. Gabriel is still in the concussion protocol, so we may see even more Wims on Thursday.
