Mitchell Trubisky played exceptionally well against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night. In addition, Matt Nagy placed the Bears offense in positions to score by calling plays that best suited Trubisky’s style. Could this be a sign that both Trubisky and Nagy are back to their 2018 form?

On Thursday night, the Chicago Bears played like the team we expected them to be this season against the depleted Dallas Cowboys. Barring a couple of miscues, including an interception in the Red Zone, a fumble and a poorly executed opening drive by the defense, everything else was directly on point.

Only one could imagine what position this team would be in if they played this well all season long. However, in the NFL, like many other areas of life, it’s not about how you start it’s about how you finish. Right now it appears that Mitchell Trubisky, Matt Nagy and this Chicago Bears team are finishing strong.

If you asked me a couple of weeks ago what the Chicago Bears playoff chances were, I would have told you that I have more faith in winning the lottery. However, this team is beginning to click on all cylinders, especially in a tight NFC Wildcard race.

Granted, a lot of things still have to happen including the Vikings and Rams both failing which is not too farfetched. All we need is a little frustration to kick on the Vikings sideline for the team to tear apart faster than the Dallas Cowboys.

The other big step in the playoff push is that the Chicago Bears have to win out their remaining games. Playing the Packers at Lambeau Field is going to be tough, and even tougher will be playing Patrick Mahomes later in the month. Maybe the game against the Kansas City Chiefs is in the Bears favor though? Could Matt Nagy use everything he learned from Andy Reid to strategize and win the football game?

24. 123. 31. 57. Final

The two huge takeaways during the Chicago Bears victory on Thursday night is that both Mitchell Trubisky and Matt Nagy are officially back. Mitchell Trubisky played like the quarterback that we all have hoped for. He was confident and poised. He was making throws that he has not been making all season long, and he was running!

That was a huge part that was missing from Trubisky’s game and one of the reasons why he was so successful in 2018. The last few games Mitch was playing well, but this game might go down not only as one of the best of the season but potentially the best of his career. Another part of Trubisky’s success is the offensive line played extremely well and provided him enough time to make plays happen.

Furthermore, where has Coach Nagy’s playcalling been all season? He did a great job on Thursday night by calling strategically designed plays that put Mitchell Trubisky and the offense in a position to succeed. He pulled back the reigns and let Trubisky just play football. He also outsmarted Cowboys coach Jason Garrett in all phases of the game.

The Chicago Bears have an all-time high confidence level right now. It is going to still take a lot for them to make the playoffs but right now this franchise is building momentum each week. For a season that had its share of adversity, this team is finally turning it around.

Even if the Bears fail to reach the playoffs but do in fact finish the season strong it will put the team in the right direction. They will be hungry for more and that can be a scary thing for opponents in 2020.
