On the first day of Christmas, my Chicago Bears gave to me…

As we inch closer and closer to the end of the season, the Chicago Bears find themselves on the outside of the playoffs. They are currently sitting in the eighth spot of the NFC with the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings ahead of them.

When we compare the schedules between these three teams, the Bears easily have the toughest schedule on paper. The Bears face-off against the Packers this Sunday, followed by the Chiefs and the Vikings to finish out the season. The team needs to win all three for a real shot at sneaking into the eighth and final playoff spot.

There is even a smaller sliver of a chance that the Bears win the NFC North at 10-6. This would mean the Packers would have to lose out to the Bears, Vikings and Lions. Yikes. Not likely. It would also mean the Vikings would have to beat the Packers next week, but lose to the Chargers this week and of course the Bears in Week 17. The chances of this seem nearly impossible.

Going back to the Wild Card possibility, if the Bears find a way to beat the Packers this week and the Chiefs next week, then the Vikings will need to lose to the Packers next week and then the Week 17 game will decide if the Vikings or Bears make it in. This at least seems closer to the realm of possibilities. But wait. This also means the Rams cannot win a certain amount of games too.

The Rams beating the Seahawks last week put a big nail in the Bears playoff coffin, but the coffin still has a crack open. The Rams will need to lose two of their last three games. That might not happen as they play the crumbling Dallas Cowboys and the less than mediocre Arizona Cardinals. The hope for an easy loss would be versus the 49ers next week. Anything can happen, right?

Alright, back to our festive spirit. As we start this Chicago Bears edition of the 12 Days of Christmas, we obviously have to start with day one. And on the first day of Christmas, my Chicago Bears gave to me − HOPE.

That is right. Despite all of the early season disappointment, the team has at least shown us some hope over the last few weeks. The defense has been on point for the majority of the year, but the offense has struggled and struggled and struggled. Mitchell Trubisky has been one of those biggest struggles, but many factors are at play.

Next. Keep, trade or release this player?. dark

However, the team has won four of their last five games and Mitchell Trubisky has looked more like his 2018 version. Could it be that Matt Nagy and the offense finally figured things out? Does this mean the team is not as bad as they have seemed to be this year? I at least have hope as the Bears go into the final three weeks of the season and the possibility of building on things heading into a crucial 2020 year.
