On the third day of Christmas, my Chicago Bears gave to me…

Well, I was hoping to give a more upbeat response here, but after the Chicago Bears lost to the Green Bay Packers today, I just could not come up with anything cheery. What made things worse was watching the Minnesota Vikings dominate the Chargers to eliminate the Bears from the playoffs. Even if the Bears win the final two games, they have no chance at the playoffs now.

What I came up with is this. On the third day of Christmas, my Chicago Bears gave to me Three Scoring Drives. Yep. That is about as positive as I could be right now. The team came up with three scoring drives in a game that felt like they could have won.

The Bears played very inconsistent football today. The defense was slipping and letting up big plays or was simply not tackling. The offense would drive down the field, but then go three-and-out for multiple drives. Mitchell Trubisky would throw some elite throws, but then just missed on some others. The inconsistencies are why this team is not in the playoffs this year.

The team came away with only 13 points. The team drove down for two field goals and finally scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter. An untimely interception in the fourth quarter really set things back for the Bears offense. However, a strong stand by the defense gave the Bears one final shot.

Unfortunately, the Bears fell short despite two solid opportunities at scoring on the last two plays. One ball that Riley Ridley had an opportunity to catch went right past him in the end zone. Then a shorter pass that turned into a game of lateral was the Bears last-ditch effort at scoring. They got the ball within the five yard-line, but could not find a way to punch it in for six.

At least the Bears made the game interesting. I was on the edge of my seat (or standing) most of the game. One of the three scoring drives were great and led to seven points. The other two were not so great. This season has been very frustrating, but I still have faith in most of the players and coaching staff heading into 2020.
