While the Chicago Bears may not make the playoffs, they can still fight to finish with a winning record, something that has not happened in Chicago enough
The Chicago Bears season is a disappointment. No one is going to paint it any other way. However, sitting at 7-7 with two games left and virtually nothing to play for, the team can still salvage something of the year.
Without a first-round pick there is minimal draft positioning that matters, so the Bears should play to go 9-7 the rest of the way. While it is not a significant difference between 7-9 and 9-7, it does symbolize a winning season compared to a losing season.
While the Chicago Bears strive for much more, it is also worth noting that while playoffs do not happen often recently, neither do winning seasons.
Last year broke a streak of 5 straight without a winning record, including an 8-8 2013. Two straight years with a winning record is a much better streak to have started. It does matter to have two winning seasons in a row rather than to have six of the last season be non-winning.
The Bears have been over .500 three times since 2010, and seven since 2000. The last time they put together back to back winning records was 2005-06. It is not like this happens all the time.
The Bears are still a young team that is growing into themselves. A window is not shutting in this moment. It would be strong for morale and momentum to show that the team is building something by putting together back to back records over .500.
Most fans will not care, as every year is Super Bowl or bust. Still, the Bears should have a lot to play for, and winning out should be the message.
