The Chicago Bears have a very strong core of players, but that should not stop Ryan Pace from continuing to try and improve. The Bears need to find a way for Khalil Mack to see more one-on-one blocking and here is the answer.

The Chicago Bears made the decision to pick up Leonard Floyd‘s fifth-year option earlier this year. The decision was to give them control and hopefully he would break out this year. After Week 1 versus the Packers, many thought the Bears made the right decision. Floyd finished the game with two sacks on Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, that trend died very quickly.

Floyd was only able to record on other sack thus far this season. Yeah, he has three sacks total on the year. This is not good enough with Khalil Mack is constantly being double and even sometimes triple-teamed. The Bears need to cut ties with Leonard Floyd this offseason. He is going to be owed a little over $13 million dollars. Broken down, that comes to just over $4 million dollars per sack this year.

Floyd is not a bad player. He brings more to the table than just sack totals, however, he is not living up to the contract total he will be owed in 2020. Ryan Pace and the Chicago Bears should cut him and use those $13 million dollars to sign a more proven sack specialist. Luckily for the Bears, this upcoming free agency market has a few to choose from.

Ryan Pace has a strong card to play with free agents when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. Chuck Pagano is well respected amongst NFL players and other coaches. Khalil Mack is a guy many other players would want on their team as well. If Pace can get creative, he might be able to bring one of these high-profile free agents.
