Chicago Bears played poor football against the Chiefs
The Chicago Bears played their worse game of the season on Sunday against the Chiefs. There was no discipline and the coaching was poor, to say the least. It was an embarrassing loss and one that reflected how horrible this season has truly been.
The Chicago Bears played poor football against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. In fact, the way they played made you wonder if they were more focused on their offseason plans. There was not one phase of the game that they played well in and the coaching was also atrocious.
Mitch Trubisky was once touted as the Bears quarterback of the future but after the way he played and his poor decision making against the Chiefs cemented the fact that the Bears need another QB option next season. Trubisky is not all to blame though.
Matt Nagy and his coaching staff did Trubisky no favors by there poor play calling. There was one head-scratching play late in the game that has to make you wonder if Trubisky will ever be an elite quarterback. His check down pass on 4th and 23 has to be one of the most inexcusable plays of his career and frankly one that a Mahomes or Deshaun Watson wouldn’t have made. Also, not to get forgotten in the mix was the many dropped passes that have plagued the Bears receivers all season long.
The defense has had some stellar games this year but for the most part, has been beyond disappointing and frustrating. Mahomes exposed a Bears defense by finding open pockets in coverage and took advantage of the overhyped secondary unit. The Bears defense couldn’t get off the field on third down most of the game and couldn’t contain the Chiefs offense attacks. However, there were some small pockets of the Bears defense of old including a near strip-sack from Khalil Mack.
Matt Nagy coached the worse game of his career and will need to do a deep dive of himself to see where everything went wrong this season. His team was not disciplined on Sunday night and created costly penalties. His playcalling was beyond questionable and it also appeared his team wasn’t ready to play a much more talented and well-coached Chiefs team.
The offseason can’t come soon enough and when it does there is going to be many changes that will have to be made. This team was supposed to be the one that won it all but after the way the entire team has regressed this season, every position from the bottom to the top will need to be addressed. Maybe this Bears organization will take their frustrations from this year and use it to catapult themselves into a winning 2020 campaign. Then again that means we would have to have hope and we all know where that led us this year.
