It should have not come as a surprise to Chicago Bears’ fans that Prince Amukamara got benched against the Packers a couple of weeks ago. The Bears probably need to cut their losses and look for some help at the position. But who might be out there for them to take a look at and possibly sign this coming offseason?

The Chicago Bears have always prided themselves on defense for decades and have usually featured great defensive players at all three levels. The Bears have worked with a combination of Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara for a few years now and while that combination has worked, for the most part, in recent games, Amukamara has looked very poor and has possibly reached the end of his shelf life.

The Bears have him signed through 2020 but there is an “out” in his contract at the end of this year that would leave the Bears just $1 million in dead cap space. I bet the Bears take that and cut him.

He is much more of a hindrance than he is a help. Amukamara’s best years are behind him and it’s time that Chicago moved on. But who are they going to move on to?

Chicago can use the usual three options to find someone to replace Amukamara. They can try to trade for another player but, with their lack of draft capital, it’s not likely that would be an option. They could try to grab a rookie in the draft but won’t have a top pick if they want to grab someone that could come in and start right away. They do have a couple of second-round picks though and one of those could be spent on a good cornerback.

But let’s assume that the Bears decide to go the free-agent route and try to pick up a good cornerback. It’s possible and this year there is a bevy of available cornerback talent that the Bears could be interested in.

After looking into each free agent cornerback, a little and trying to figure out what the best fit would be for the Bears, I have come up with five players that the Bears should be looking at signing this offseason. There is a little bit of detail about the player’s history in the league, how they play and how they could benefit the Bears.
