Brashaud Breeland-Kansas City

Breeland is someone that is lesser known than a few of the others that we have looked at but might be someone that the Bears can afford that can play well and help fill the void opposite Fuller. Breeland is currently a Kansas City Chief and has been in the league for six seasons having played for three teams including the Washington Redskins, Green Bay Packers and now the Kansas City Chiefs.

If you have watched Breeland play, you may have noticed that he is one of the better cornerbacks in the league right now. His ability to cover receivers is decent and he is a sure tackler. He is very good in run support. But that’s not where it matters, for a cornerback. He has to be decent in pass coverage and while Breeland has had his ups and downs in coverage, he has been consistent.

Would he be consistent enough to play for the Bears? Breeland may not be a top-flight cornerback but he’s serviceable and could be someone that the Bears bring in following drafting a corner (perhaps in the second round). They could keep Breeland around for a couple of years to help him hold down the spot while the new guy gets his act together and can be a starting NFL cornerback.

Breeland is 28 so he has some tread still left on his tires. The Bears could take a look at him and get him for a bargain price if the Chiefs don’t want to re-sign him. He would be a decent fill-in until the Bears can find a little more stability at the position.
