Who are five coaches that may be in line for the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator job?

With the hiring of Juan Castillo, the Chicago Bears have just two vacant jobs on the coaching staff. They need a tight ends coach, but more importantly, are still without an offensive coordinator.

Matt Nagy calls the plays, but the development of the play sheet and play sequencing throughout the week is what makes everything work. Nagy needs a reliable offensive coordinator to keep things in-line, and they did not feel Mark Helfferich did enough.

With that in mind, Matt Nagy is going to have full say on this decision. Ryan Pace will obviously have to sign off, but he trusts Nagy, and this is Nagy’s offense. Pace will not interfere much and trust Nagy to get his guy. This shows in the hiring of Castillo, who is very familiar with Nagy.

With that in mind, who are five coordinators that may fit the role for the Chicago Bears?

5. Pat Shurmur

A lot of fans have pointed to Pat Shurmur as a possibility for Chicago. He has failed twice as a head coach but has been a successful coordinator twice, which led to those job opportunities. Shurmur was the offensive coordinator for the Rams from 2009-10, which led to his first head coach job and was the offensive coordinator for the Vikings in 2017, which led to him getting a second chance with the Giants.

Shurmur may be a better coordinator than head coach. Shurmur and Nagy both were on the Eagles staff in 2008, and while they did not spend much time together, Shurmur was with Andy Reid from 1999-2008. They have been brought up with similar philosophies.

Shurmur will certainly continue to get a mention as a potential candidate.
