John DeFilippo likely chose the Chicago Bears for one of these two reasons

Welcome to the Chicago Bears John DeFilippo. Since coaches rarely give insight into the truth behind their reasons for the decisions they make, especially in the offseason when everything is shadowed by secrecy, I am here to play investigative speculator on why DeFilippo chose the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears have recently made some major changes to their coaching staff. Out with the old and in with the new they say. With Bill Lazor stepping in for Mark Helfrich at the offensive coordinator position, no one would have expected that Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace could have convinced John DeFilippo to step in as the Bears quarterbacks coach.

The move was a shock for two reasons. First, Dave Ragone was retained as the Bears quarterbacks coach at the end of the season. No one could have expected the Bears were looking to bring in someone else for a filled position. With the addition of DeFilippo as quarterbacks coach, the Bears then “promoted” Ragone to the passing game coordinator.

The second reason the move was a shock is that DeFilippo has been holding down offensive coordinator positions with two other teams over the last couple of years. In fact, DeFilippo interviewed for Matt Nagy’s job just two seasons ago. Now he is essentially taking a demotion to become the Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach. He must have really liked what Pace has to offer.

In fact, rumors are that DeFilippo had other opportunities this offseason after being let go by the Jaguars. DeFilippo chose Chicago over other opportunities, but why?
