Remember last season when we harped on the Green Bay Packers for “winning” free agency? Chicago Bears fans must remember spending big does not always work out. These overlooked free agents could be the key to success in 2020.

The Chicago Bears, like many teams, need to make some changes to their roster. The offense needs to find some playmakers. The defense needs to add depth and find some replacements. With the Chicago Bears current cap situation, Ryan Pace will need to be somewhat creative in free agency this offseason. Spending big does not always equate to “winning” free agency.

Instead, the Bears should look to add some quality players to low-cost contracts who could still help in the short-term. Letting Prince Amukamara and Taylor Gabriel go leaves holes on the roster the Bears need to fill. The team is also going to probably lose one or both of Danny Trevathan and Nick Kwiatkoski. This leaves inside linebacker as an area of need heading into 2020 as well.

The team clearly needs a tight end to step up and be a true receiving threat. Quarterback is now a need as Mitchell Trubisky is the only quarterback under contract for 2020. I would argue that wide receiver is a glaring need too as the team needs to find another playmaker opposite Allen Robinson. I would be a fool to not include the offensive line as a major concern as well.

As you can see, one season can be significant in how we view a team. Last year many thought the Bears had very few “needs” to fill but this season there are glaring holes in the roster. Crazy what one year can do to the confidence of a fanbase. If Ryan Pace is to be successful, he should look to add one or two of these under the radar free agents.
