The Chicago Bears need help on the offensive line. Not often do perennial Pro Bowlers become available. Ryan Pace must call on these two offensive linemen and see what it will take to acquire their talents.

It seems half the Chicago Bears fans I speak with either believes the team needs to fix the offensive line to find success in 2020 or the other half wants a new quarterback. Alright, some of you probably want both. Here is the thing though, fixing the line will not be easy. The team has minimal salary cap room and lacks a first-round draft pick.

Cody Whitehair is locked in and so is James Daniels. Bobby Massie‘s contract will cost the team more to cut him, which means Pace will not be able to move on from him either until 2021. The right guard position will need to be filled since Kyle Long hung up his cleats, but by who? Charles Leno could technically be cut if the team wants to move on and save around $3 million dollars, but I find that happening highly doubtful.

As of now, the Chicago Bears are scheduled to have the 21st most salary designated to the offensive line. The team is inked for $30.2 million dollars. In comparison, the Las Vegas Raiders, still want to call them Oakland, are on the hook for $62.9 million. The Cowboys are second with 59.9 million allocated. I am not saying the team needs to match those salaries but it does mean there is precedent for them to spend more.

Not to mention, if the team truly wants to improve, then Pace needs to find a way to anchor the trenches. No matter who is playing quarterback, if he does not have time to throw the ball, the offense will not succeed. It seems that two Pro Bowl linemen are somewhat available this offseason. The cost may be too much, but Pace must at least pick up the phone. One is a trade possibility and the other would be through free agency.
