Chicago Bears Draft: One wide receiver to take in each round
By Ryan Sikes
Denzel Mims, Baylor
Denzel Mims was an NFL Combine warrior. He posted the third-fastest 40 time (4.38 seconds) behind only Henry Ruggs III of Alabama and Quez Watkins of Southern Miss and was the top performer in the three-cone drill by a wide margin. At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, he’d be an ideal target opposite Robinson.
At Baylor, Mims accumulated over 2,900 receiving yards in three seasons as a starter and averaged 15.7 yards per reception. He’s an excellent deep-ball threat. Perhaps more importantly, for a Bears’ offense that struggled to put up points consistently, six of his 12 touchdowns came in the redzone last season.
Playerprofiler views Mims’ pro comparison being Chris Godwin, and I think that’s an excellent choice. Mims is a couple of inches taller than Godwin, but their 40 times, vertical jump, hand size, and yards-per-reception are all relatively similar.
There is the potential for Mims to be a late first-round pick, but a team would have to fall in love with him to reach past the like of Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy, Jalen Reagor, and Justin Jefferson, so he should be available when the Chicago Bears are on the clock in the second round.
